Week of 7/6/2015

Connor defeated Alexander

Battle Format: Single

Connor: Gothitelle, Sylveon, Charizard, Mamoswine, Ferrothorn, Blastoise
Alexander: Ninetales, Victreebel, Houndoom, Heatran, Hitmontop, Golem

The pendulum swung back and forth a few times in this one, but Connor came out on top. Thresh (Mega Charizard X) and #work (Gothitelle) got the ball rolling for Connor with a KO each. Alexander answered with Golem and Hitmontop each netting a KO. Thresh took over again for Connor, rattling off 3 straight KOs, giving it 4 for the battle, before poison eventually wore it down and out. Down to his last gasp, Alexander called on Mega Houndoom. Backed by intense sun, Mega Houndoom was able to score a pair of KOs, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback. Mamoswine finished Mega Houndoom off to lock up the win.

Zero defeated Custos

Battle Format: Single

Lineups:
Zero: Landorus, Scizor, Talonflame, Greninja, Salamence, Serperior
Custos: Sylveon, Scizor, Talonflame, Garchomp, Greninja, Venusaur

Custos drew the short straw in his first battle back in the IPL as he was matched up against a re-focused Zero. Zero got out of the gate quick as Alpha (Scizor) and Ikki (Talonflame) scored early KOs. Custos battled back strong as Egysta (Talonflame), Nephilim (Sylveon), and Midrash (Mega Venusaur) each picked up a KO. However, the lead for Custos was short-lived. The door had been opened for Ikki to clean house, and it did exactly that, taking down all 4 of the remaining opposing Pokémon, giving it 5 KOs for the battle and the win to Zero.

Howler defeated Erkenhelm

Battle Format: Single

Lineups:
Howler: Jolteon, Scizor, Gastrodon, Arcanine, Togekiss, Sableye
Erkenhelm: Pidgeot, Dragonite, Tentacruel, Espeon, Arcanine, Galvantula

Howler got back on his feet, picking up his first win since losing the IPL World Championship. Jolteon kicked things off for Howler with a quick KO on Ungoliant (Galvantula). Erkenhelm evened things up as Thorondor (Mega Pidgeot) took down Gastrodon. Jolteon picked up its 2nd KO of the battle and Togekiss added one of its own to push Howler back out in front. Glaurung (Dragonite) scored a KO on Mega Scizor to draw Erkenhlem closer, but Arcanine took over for Howler to lengthen the lead. Arcanine notched a pair of KOs before Erkenhelm’s Arcanine (Huan) put a stop to it. Jolteon finished Huan off for its 3rd KO of the battle to bring it to a close.

Lindomar defeated Draexzhan

Battle Format: Single

Lineups:
Lindomar: Diancie, Talonflame, Excadrill, Tyranitar, Keldeo, Celebi
Draexzhan: Tornadus, Espeon, Gastrodon, Porygon-Z, Mawile, Hawlucha

Lindomar continued his impressive run up the IPL rankings. Curacaobae (Mega Diancie) and KFC (Talonflame) picked up the first 2 KOs of the battle for Lindomar after some initial jockeying for position. Draexzhan was able to even things up as PageNotFound (Porgyon-Z) scored a pair of KOs. Drillmon (Excadrill) stopped PageNotFound and took over the battle for Lindomar. Rawk Hawk barely survived an Iron Head from Drillmon, but the ongoing sandstorm finished it off. Drillmon then secured the final 2 KOs, officially giving it 3 for the battle, handing the win to Lindomar.

AJ defeated Michael

Battle Format: Single

Lineups:
AJ: Uxie, Cofagrigus, Gyarados, Kingdra, Diancie, Lucario
Michael: Rotom (Wash), Noivern, Slowbro, Malamar, Serperior, Magnezone

This roller coaster battle went to AJ. Mega Diancie kicked things off for AJ with a KO on Poseidon (Malamar). Michael responded with Baal (Rotom) getting the KO on Uxie. AJ then summoned Lucario, who proceeded to rattle off 3 KOs in row to create a resounding advantage. Cofagrigus pressed it further by KO’ing Mega Slowbro. Michael fought back valiantly with Serperior, who scored a pair of KOs before Mega Diancie finally put a stop to it, earning its 2nd KO of the battle and a win for AJ.

Sethyas defeated Custos

Battle Format: Rotation

Lineups:
Sethyas: Dragonite, Lilligant, Rotom (Wash), Talonflame, Metagross, Ferrothorn
Custos: Gliscor, Scizor, Empoleon, Manectric, Noivern, Politoed

Sethyas added to the unceremonious welcome back to the IPL for Custos. Custos got on the board first as Maxine (Mega Manectric) took don Oxie (Rotom). Trogdor (Dragonite) responded for Sethyas with a pair of KOs. Scizor KO’d Trogdor to pull Custos even. Sethyas jumped back out in front as Flaora (Lilligant) scored a pair of KOs. Custos once again relied on Scizor to end a run as it picked up its 2nd KO of the battle on Flaora. Unfortunately for Custos, the last run left him with no Pokémon left to put a stop to it as Epsilon (Mega Metagross) notched the final 2 KOs to end the battle.

Week of 7/13/2015

Lindomar defeated Sethyas

Battle Format: Triple

Lineups:
Lindomar: Hitmontop, Salamence, Amoonguss, Talonflame, Greninja, Gothitelle
Sethyas: Hydreigon, Talonflame, Dragonite, Scizor, Sylveon, Metagross

Lindomar needed a win here and some help to get the next IPL World Championship match and he held up his end of the bargain. OmegaShenron (Mega Salamence) scored first for Lindomar with a KO on Rykor (Scizor). Epsilon evened things up for Sethyas after a KO on 1-Up (Amoonguss). Lindomar grabbed firm control of the battle from here. OmegaShenron picked up its 2nd KO of the battle and Subzero (Greninja) sandwiched a pair of KOs around one from DTF (Gothitelle) to bring Sethyas to the brink. Trogdor (Dragonite) took down DTF, but the task was just too tall as KFC (Talonflame) finished it off to bring Lindomar to the precipice of a title shot.

Zero defeated AJ

Battle Format: Single

Lineups:
Zero: Garchomp, Venusaur, Rotom (Heat), Slaking, Jellicent, Conkeldurr
AJ: Ninetales, Jolteon, Gyarados, Uxie, Diancie, Lucario

Zero once again showed what happens when he means business. After a long initial period of both trainers feeling each other out, AJ was the first to see a Pokémon fall as Gyarados was drained by Leech Seed. AJ was able to even things up as Mega Diancie scored a KO on Seiya (Conkeldurr). Eva (Garchomp) and Romeo (Rotom) each picked up a KO to push Zero back out in front. Romeo would soon after fall due to Stealth Rock damage, but AJ would lose a Pokémon indrectly as well as Uxie took itself out thanks to confusion. Juvia (Jellicent) got the KO on Jolteon to bring Zero to the edge of victory. Lucario tried to battle back for AJ, but the numbers were too much to overcome. After one KO for Lucario, Kong (Slaking) came in and finished it off to wrap up the win for Zero.

Howler defeated Connor

Battle Format: Single

Lineups:
Howler: Skarmory, Thundurus, Sylveon, Swampert, Tentacruel, Dragonite
Connor: Ferrothorn, Jellicent, Sylveon, Metagross, Mamoswine, Talonflame

Connor needed a win here to lock up the next IPL World Title shot, but Howler denied him that chance. Dragonite got it going for Howler with a KO on Dreadnaught (Talonflame). This started a back and forth exchange that saw both trainers lose 2 Pokémon. Dragonite struck again to finish off Beemo (Jellicent) and then Connor’s Sylveon, Rai, went down due to Stealth Rock damage to push Howler out in front. Damage (Mega Metagross) finally put Dragonite down, but it was too late. Sun’s out (Mega Swampert) hit the field for Howler and scored both of the final 2 KOs to give Howler the win and the title shot to Lindomar.

Custos defeated Michael

Battle Format: Rotation

Lineups:
Custos: Garchomp, Greninja, Sylveon, Scizor, Talonflame, Venusaur
Michael: Malamar, Magnezone, Noivern, Serperior, Rotom (Wash), Swampert

Custos picked up his first win since returning to active competition in the IPL. Custos jumped out to a commanding lead early as Shekinaga (Garchomp), Midrash (Mega Venusaur), and Anomalith (Greninja) all picked up KOs. Hermes (Noivern) got Michael on the board with a KO on Anomalith. Nephilim (Sylveon) was able to put Hermes down, but would soon after fall thanks to Thoth (Magnezone). The battle was merely a formality at this point due to the numbers. Shekinaga took Thoth down for its 2nd KO of the battle and Wendigo (Scizor) finished off Baal (Rotom) to wrap things up for Custos.

Draexzhan defeated Erkenhelm

Draexzhan: Galvantula, Kecleon, Porygon2, Volcarona, Blastoise, Latios
Erkenhelm: Dragonite, Feraligatr, Arcanine, Espeon, Galvantula, Tyranitar

Draexzhan pulled out a win over Erkenhelm in a fine battle. Erkenhelm started well with Tarlang (Mega Tyranitar) scoring a KO on Cheat Code (Porygon2). Draexzhan called on Otegine (Kecleon) to battle back. Otegine rattled off 3 straight KOs before Feraligatr could fnally put a stop to its run. Moja (Mega Blastoise) notched a KO on Tevildo (Espeon) to increase Draexzhan’s lead. Feraligatr was able to put Moja down, but Trishula (Galvantula) finally put a stop to Feraligatr. Erkenhelm’s final Pokémon, Huan (Arcanine), fought back valiantly, scoring a pair of KOs, but it couldn’t quite complete the comeback. Castor (Volcarona) finished Huan off to secure the win for Draexzhan.

It’s time for the next IPL special event, Relentless Rumble! Lindomar snuck into the IPL World Championship match in the last week and will take on the World Champion, Sethyas. Lindomar currently stands as the IPL trainer with the best overall win percentage. But so was Howler when Sethyas took him down last month. Can Sethyas repeat that performance to defend the title?
