AJ d. Custos

Battle Format: Single
Battle Video: DSAW-WWWW-WWW7-DDJ5

Lineups:
AJ: Aegislash, Crawdaunt, Venusaur, Alakazam, Rotom (Heat), Staraptor
Custos: Espeon, Blastoise, Torterra, Haxorus, Heracross, Talonflame

AJ once again looked impressive and became the first trainer in the IPL to 10 victories. These two trainers traded KOs in the early portion of the battle, keeping the field even. This changed when Lionheart (Aegislash) hit the field for AJ. Able to keep Custos guessing, Lionheart picked up KOs on Blaster (Mega Blastoise) and Red Eyes (Haxorus). This opened up the advantage for AJ and despite the best efforts of Pheonix (Talonflame), scoring all 3 of its team’s KOs, Custos couldn’t complete the comeback. Zeke (Mega Venusaur) also had 2 KOs in the victory for AJ.

Lance d. Andy

Battle Format: Single
Battle Video: NEMW-WWWW-WWW7-EWYA

Lineups:
Lance: Rhyperior, Arcanine, Machamp, Gengar, Dragonite, Exeggutor
Andy: Rotom (Wash), Scizor, Zapdos, Rhydon, Chesnaught, Togekiss

Lance came back from his disappointing IPL debut with a vengeance. This battle started slowly as both trainers were being sure not to allow the opponent to get the upper hand. Lance was able to get Stealth Rocks and Trick Room set up during this initial jockeying. Ishihara (Exeggutor) got the first tally of the bout with a KO on Tess (Togekiss). Pyro (Arcanine) followed it by finishing off a weakened RhyDad (Rhydon) to press the advantage. Lance’s only Pokémon to go down was Ishihara, who eventually succumbed the burn damage. The pace slowed down again as Andy attempted to fight back, but was he was never able to get the wheels turning. Lance’s Siegfriend (Dragonite) then hit the field, and after a Dragon Dance, was able to storm to victory, picking up 3 KOs via Outrage and watching Zapdos go down thanks to the Stealth Rocks.

Michael d. Jeff

Battle Format: Single
Battle Video: WY7G-WWWW-WWW7-F6HQ

Lineups:
Michael: Swampert, Noivern, Talonflame, Magnezone, Rotom (Wash), Politoed
Jeff: Magnezone, Nidoking, Avalugg, Hippowdon, Charizard, Tyranitar

This battle saw a great potential comeback thwarted. While Jeff grabbed the first KO via Ragnarok (Tyranitar), Michael picked up the next 3, 2 of which came from Nereus (Politoed). After the 3rd of those KOs, Jeff tried to take advantage of Thoth (Magnezone) being locked into a Fire-type Hidden Power to allow Nova (Mega Charizard X) to set itself up with 3 Dragon Dances. Nova took down Thoth, but was immediately KO’d after by Horus (Talonflame) thanks to its Gale Wings ability. Nerues and Horus both picked up another KO each en route to a victory for Michael.

Steven d. Alexander

Battle Format: Double
Battle Video: MGSW-WWWW-WWW7-FQRB

Steven: Meowstic, Talonflame, Manectric, Terrakion, Rotom (Mow), Garchomp
Alexander: Jolteon, Meganium, Gallade, Dragonite, Nidoqueen, Basculin

Steven continued his momentum into his upcoming championship match rolling. He do so in a hard-fought, back and forth battle with the first IPL World Champion. Neither trainer was able to establish a clear advantage for most of the match, but it was clear that Alexander was in the role of counterpuncher throughout. In the end, Steven rode a slight advantage all the way to victory. HM01 (Rotom) was the star for Steven, leading the way with 3 KOs.
