This is part of a series of posts that are chronicling the Pokémon ION Organized Play event, the Kanto War Game. In the last journal entry, I introduced the vigilante group, Ultraviolet. Now, it’s time to get the full scale of what is in store for the region of Kanto.
We headed to Indigo Plateau at the request of Lance, the dragon master who is the Champion of Kanto’s Pokémon League. Like most of us, Lance was growing concerned with all of the agendas popping up around Kanto, so to speak. We were told that he had uncovered some information about the latest devolpments that might be useful to us, and we were not disappointed.
Lance had been in contact with various Gym Leaders throughout the region trying to ascertain the situation and determine the best way to start putting out the fires. Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader, had informed him that some nut job was snooping around Cerulean Cave, threatening anyone who approached him that once he located Mewtwo, the world would be his. According to Blaine of Cinnabar Island, a group has been seen around the volcano on the island. He thinks that they are trying to collect magma for some reason. Lance doesn’t think either of those issues are major threats and said he can handle them both himself. The other three that had for us were a different story.
It seems that Ultraviolet has set up shop in Lavender Town. Reports have come in that the group visited the House of Memories the other day. I figure that it has something to do with The White Fedora and his Cubone. I’m not completely surprised by this because Lavender Town is home to the Kanto Radio Tower. That will make it a little easier for them to get their message out there. Lance doesn’t doubt the group’s sincerity as much as I do, but he has mentioned some of the same reservations. Regardless, we still need to keep an eye on them.
Sabrina, noted psychic and the Saffron City Gym Leader, had a premonition. Her vision foretold of a three-headed monster raining destruction down upon the region. She said she felt its presence close by. Clearly, she didn’t know how close it was.
An organization known as Team Cataclysm has claimed Saffron City. From what we have been able to gather, this group is comprised of former members of Team Rocket, Team Aqua, and Team Magma. That is an unsettling concept. Residents of Saffron who have fled the town claim that over the last several weeks, quite a few “shady types” have been coming to Saffron via the Magnet Train. Once they had sufficient numbers, the group overwhelmed the city, defeating Sabrina and her psychic trainers. We would have headed straight to Saffron, except for the fact that there was more.
Saffron City isn’t the only city to fall under occupation. Lt. Surge, the Gym Leader of Vermilion City, told Lance that he was raided and defeated by a group calling themselves Team Upstairs. We’re not exactly sure what the name refers to, but from what we understand, they claim to be a team of superior trainers who will show the world what they can do. This, obviously, complicates things quite a bit.
With these three groups so close to each other, eastern Kanto is a powder keg that could explode at any moment. While Lance goes to snuff out the small fires, it’s our job to handle this mess. For now, we’re setting up a command center here at Indigo Plateau. Zero believes we may be able to recruit some of the strong trainers looking to challenge the Elite Four to our cause and fortify some defenses in western Kanto. That seems to be the best course of action for the moment. It’s quite clear now, war is upon us.
